The person behind Zhou Education

I'm Nelson. I design the programs, teach writing and mark every piece personally.

Class teachers are named in the programs section. I work with families in Sydney and online across Australia. Everything on this site, including the free practice software, was built by me.

Nelson Zhou, founder and teacher at Zhou Education

I design the programs, teach writing and mark every piece personally.

Class teachers are named in the programs section. I'm a full-time medical student in the Joint Medical Program. That is a real limit on how many families I can take, and I'd rather say so than pretend otherwise. It also shapes how the business is built: the teaching I do personally is deliberately small, and the software exists so that families I can't teach still get something useful for free.

Where I've come from.

I built the free tools because most families don't need to pay me.

Most parents who find this site are trying to work out whether their child should sit OC, which selective schools are realistic, or whether a UCAT course is worth the money. Those are questions you can answer yourself with the right information. The practice banks, the school finders and the planning tools are free for that reason. If you get what you need and never contact me, the site has done its job.

I look for the point where it breaks down.

I teach writing in class, then check how each student actually applies it. Most students don't fail because they haven't seen the content. They fail because one step in their method is wrong and nobody has looked closely enough to find it. My job is to find that step, change it, and check the next piece of work to see whether the change held.

Who I'm a good fit for, and who I'm not.

A good fit

  • Families making one complicated decision who want it thought through properly
  • Students who will do the work between sessions
  • Parents who want the same person teaching every week
  • Families comfortable with a small number of hours done well

Not a good fit

  • Families looking for the lowest hourly rate
  • Anyone who wants a guaranteed placement or a promised score
  • Students who want work marked without changing how they study
  • Families who need many hours a week across many subjects
