Opportunity Class preparation for Year 3 and Year 4.
I'm Nelson Zhou. Before recommending any lessons I run a one hour diagnostic across Reading, Writing and Mathematical Reasoning, mark it myself, and return a written report within five business days. If your child does not need a program yet, I will tell you that.
Free to use, no account needed. It will show you the question types. It is not a substitute for the diagnostic, which is what tells you where your child actually sits.

Study material
Build an expert's habits, one method at a time.
Open a lesson, follow its short method and try the mini example before revealing the model answer. The goal is to know why a method works, not simply to remember an option.

Reading
Read like a detective
Evidence → inference → whole-text meaning
Lesson 1 · FREEFind proof, not just familiar wordsExplicit information
A reliable method
Underline the key idea in the question.
Scan for that idea or a close synonym.
Read the complete sentence before choosing.
Mini example
Text: 'The ferry left after the fog lifted.' Question: Why was the ferry delayed?
Reveal model answer
The ferry waited for the fog to lift.
Watch for: Choosing an option that repeats a word from the text but changes what happened.
Lesson 2 · FREEBuild an inference from cluesInference
A reliable method
Collect two or more relevant clues.
Ask what must or most likely follows.
Reject ideas that are possible but not supported.
Mini example
Luca puts his wet umbrella by the door and wipes his glasses. What is likely true outside?
Reveal model answer
It is probably raining. Both clues support that inference.
Watch for: Adding a dramatic detail that the text never suggests.
Lesson 3 · FREEState the main idea at the right sizeMain idea and synthesis
A reliable method
Give each paragraph a short label.
Notice the idea repeated or developed across them.
Choose a summary broad enough for the whole text but no broader.
Mini example
Three paragraphs describe a creek clean-up, the wildlife returning and the need for continued care.
Reveal model answer
Community care has helped the creek recover, but the work must continue.
Watch for: Selecting a memorable detail from one paragraph as the whole main idea.
