Initial Diagnostic Assessment
Find out what your child needs to work on first.
I use a one hour, timed assessment of Reading, Writing and Mathematical Reasoning to understand where a student sits before recommending lessons. I, Nelson Zhou, personally mark the work and return a written report within five business days. For students in Year 3 to Year 9, in person at Epping or over Zoom.

Why not a trial lesson
A single trial lesson with a new student is mostly guesswork about the problem. I can choose something to teach, but I do not yet know whether it is what that student needs most.
The diagnostic identifies the problem first. I look at the student's work across Reading, Writing and Mathematical Reasoning before deciding what to work on and in what order.
This is an assessment, not a trial lesson. It is the entry point to my classes and paired lessons. I offer places in ongoing programs based on the diagnostic result.

I assess how the student puts their ideas into writing.
Mathematical Reasoning
I assess how the student reasons through mathematical problems.
What you receive
I mark the assessment personally and return a written report within five business days. The report explains where your child sits, what needs work and the order in which I recommend addressing it.

I recommend a class program, paired lessons or one to one lessons based on the result. If nothing is needed yet, I will tell you honestly.

Book the diagnostic
The fee is A$200. Send your preferred days and times and I will confirm the time and the Epping or Zoom arrangements with you personally. The fee is settled on the day, in person or by bank transfer.
Questions before booking
How does the diagnostic work over Zoom?
Your child completes the one hour, timed assessment over Zoom. I confirm the Zoom link and arrangements for assessment materials after booking.
What should my child bring?
Please bring the materials specified in your booking confirmation. I confirm the arrangements for Epping or Zoom after booking.
Does my child need to prepare?
No. I want to understand what your child can do now, so no preparation is needed.
What happens if the result is weak?
I explain what needs work and where to begin. The report gives you an order of priorities, and I use the result to recommend the right format for your child.
Is the diagnostic compulsory for classes?
Yes. It is the entry point to Zhou Education classes and paired lessons. I offer places in ongoing programs based on the diagnostic result.
What if we need to reschedule?
Tell me at least 24 hours beforehand and we will move it at no cost. Nothing is paid until the assessment happens, so there is nothing to refund if you change your mind before then. Service and payment terms
